Having already built up a worldwide following, RockCorps is celebrating its fourth year in Japan in 2017. To help grow the number of participants and fans, this year’s concert will be held in the Kanto region.
“I’d like to become a volunteer, but I don’t know how…”
No worries! All you need to bring along is yourself and a willingness to help. We look forward to having you on board!
RockCorps launches in the US with the concept of “Give, Get Given”.
The project launches in London, UK in 2008. The following year, it launches in Paris, France. The event features top artists including Lady Gaga and David Guetta.
RockCorps launches in Israel. Featuring Rihanna, the Israel event welcomes 13,500 volunteers. In 2013, the project launches in Australia, the ninth country to join RockCorps.
Supported by Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT), RockCorps launches in Japan. To assist with the recovery and reconstruction efforts after the devastating 2011 earthquake, RockCorps focuses most of its volunteer activities in the Kanto and Tohoku regions. The event held in Fukushima Prefecture’s Azuma Arena features artists including NE-YO, Kobukuro, May J. and flumpool, and includes 4,103 volunteers.
RockCorps is held in Japan for the second time. Similarly to 2014, the volunteer activities are held mainly in the Kanto and Tohoku regions to assist with ongoing recovery efforts, and include cleaning up beaches, building temporary housing, and repairing earthquake-damaged photos and data. The concert is again held at Azuma Arena, and artists include Mika Nakajima, PUFFY, HOME MADE and will.i.am – all cheered on by 3,280 volunteers.
RockCorps’ third appearance in Japan is again focused on earthquake recovery activities. Singer Minami Takahashi is announced as the first Official RockCorps Ambassador, and she joins one of the volunteer activities as well as performs at the final concert. Other artists at the event include Carly Rae Jepsen, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, HY and Aqua Timez.
This is RockCorps’ fourth year in Japan. Aside from the landscape programs and earthquake recovery activities held in the past couple of years, additional activities join the list this year. These will take place mainly in the Kanto region and include natural protection in forest areas and parks, environmental protection in the Central Tokyo region, and beach or river cleaning activities. With the total number of different types of volunteer activities rising to nearly 20, and with different regions being served, more people can get involved and experience the satisfaction of helping others. This year, for the first time in the Japan RockCorps history, the celebration concert also moves from Fukushima to the Kanto region (Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture).
